Confident

“…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

I so often lack confidence in myself; oddly enough for someone who is and seems fairly confident.

But the deep-down, soul deep confidence that is needed during those decisive moments, that is the kind of confidence that we all lack at times.

And yet, the Author of Life says to us, “Si se puede”.

This may sound like a cheesy “Jesus loves you and believes in you” bit, but it’s way more of the incredibly warming realization that somewhere in the depths there is a voice saying, “Get up. We can do this.”

I needed this today. And in some strange way, the rain provided that voice.

May we learn to listen in the depths as we seek to find our way to the surface again and remember what it is like to breathe and live life to the full.

Abraham // Sufjan Stevens

“Abraham, put off on your son
Take instead the ram
Until Jesus comes”

What soul-wrenching mourning and such sweet relief to have lost your most prized one in your hands, only to gain them back again. That delicate and most humble substitute, stretching across stumps as if to say love cannot be overcome. Not then. Not now. Not ever.

Best one of these I’ve seen thus far.

jrshoenberger:

I would be cautious in faulting religion instead of those who are charged with carrying it forward. If we are to be like Jesus (a person who held a system of beliefs and practices), should we not focus on living our religion more perfectly instead of ignoring those practices deemed holy by our Savior?

…and there you have it folks. You can stop making more redonkulous rebuttal videos. This about sums it up.

Hearts Fixed On Jesus

fabulousromancandle:

It is one thing to love the ways of the Lord when all is fair, and quite another to hold to them in the face of discouragements and difficulties. The kiss of outward profession is very cheap and easy, but the practical clinging to the Lord, which must show itself in holy devotion to truth and holiness, is no small matter.

Blessed among women will be those who for Christ’s sake renounce all; but forgotten, and worse than forgotten, will be those who in the hour of temptation violate their conscience and turn back to the world. This morning let us not be content with the form of devotion, which may be no better than Orpah’s kiss, but may the Holy Spirit work in us a clinging of our whole heart to the Lord Jesus.

-Spurgeon

If the angels were capable of envy, they would envy us for two things: one is the receiving of Holy Communion, and the other is suffering.

If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn’t help the poor, either we need to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we’ve got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don’t want to do it.
— Stephen Colbert

Nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

Show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Jesus Loves You! With extra strength cleansing power! Those tough sin stains don’t stand a chance. Now in lavender or lemon-scented blood.
