You don’t need to read all those books and shit. All you need is a kneeler, a curtain to close you in, and a crucifix to stare at. Prayer. That’s what it’s all about.

I grabbed coffee with a Capuchin brother staying at my house and had a pretty heavy talk about despair.

Whether we are in seminary and working in urban kitchens serving the homeless or dealing with the beautiful mess of the adoption world, it is easy to find yourself in despair.

Brother Miles busted out some Viktor Frankl (shout out to Breez as well):

Despair = Suffering - Meaning

I feel that I’ve come to a point as this year nears an end where I’ve seemed to have lost that meaning. Perhaps I just need reminded of that. Or perhaps this is the nudge to move into something greater. Greater not in social stature/dolla-dolla bills, but in true joy and meaning.

May we all find those things that bring us that inner joy and peace. The kind where you wake up and fall asleep utterly exhausted but overwhelmed by the wonders He has shown you.
