Summer Comes

To Multiply.

Here are some things I want to add/multiply in my life this summer (and maybe a few eliminations).

1. More baseball. I miss living in Pittsburgh and having access to such a beautiful stadium, but hoping to take advantage of the Durham Bulls more this summer. Who knows, maybe even a Braves or Nationals game will be in order as well.

2. Drink less coffee/brews. I don’t drink nearly as much as most people might assume (same goes for my Scotch consumption), but I would like to cut back and drink more of it at home and not out (where it kills the wallet).

3. More walks. Darling, can we please go on more walks—-even hikes?

4. Write more. Tumblr is too tempting to use as a more archaic Pinterest. I want to share more of my writing that I’ve had stored up and keep working on more.

5. Make wine. It’s a gnawing desire and one that I can’t shake. It’s time.

6. Cultivate love. I’ve been thinking about patience and gentleness and how these are only going to flourish even more with the seed of love being nourished and blooming in and through me and outwards to others. Praying for the ability to know when to wait and to know when to pursue. Thankful for the beautiful models of this that I have in my life. Thank you, Merritt for your relentless love.

7. Find peace. This Spring has been beautiful, but quite difficult as well. Hoping for life to calm down and settle a bit—that peace and reconciliation can come—that healing and progress are in the works.

8. Make friends. I jumped right into grad school and was quite preoccupied with studying, work, and time with Mer. Hoping to connect with other tumblr folks and cool cats in the area. Holler, if you’re out there.

9. More succulents. I need more succulents in my life. Life. Beauty. Simplicity. A witness of survival and flourishing amidst harsh environments. A model of peace.

10. Learn something. Loving the idea of learning something new. Maybe it’s a hobby, skill, song on the guitar, or crafting something. Really wanting to be active in my continual desire to learn, share, and create.

Let’s get growing.

I realized tonight, or perhaps merely re-remembered,

That I would live anywhere with you.

I would sacrifice our over-chlorinated—over fluoridated water,

To drive 3 miles to fetch you Spring.

Just so that your compost pile has more egg shells,

But also because I’ll need more for all the pancakes,

I’ll be scraping together for you in the mornings,

Alongside my coffee

And in between your juice.

We would sit on that porch—whiskey and love in hand,

And finally breathe a breath called home.

I would go anywhere for you,

Except for Wichita.
